Cinderellas of Muscat

In Cinderellas of Muscat (Sanderellat Masqat), Omani author Huda Hamed delivers a nuanced, multi-voiced narrative uncovering the hidden lives and inner thoughts of women living in contemporary Muscat. Deconstructing the traditional fairy-tale trope of "Cinderella," Hamed paints realistic, multifaceted portraits of young Omani women navigating societal expectations, romance, career aspirations, and personal independence. Through fluid prose, dry humor, and deep psychological empathy, the novel portrays the social evolution of Oman's urban middle class and the ongoing balance women maintain between cultural heritage and modern self-realization.

It offers a refreshing, authentic, and engaging look into modern Arab and Gulf women's lives, blending sharp social insight with compelling storytelling.
